I am a licensed teacher with a Bachelor's degree in Special Education K-12.  I taught Special Education in Asheville for 11 years working with a broad range of needs such as ADHD, Autism and specific learning disabilities. I have taught  reading, writing, and math to K-6th graders and have trained extensively in a range of topics including a 30 hour Foundations Orton Gillingham reading course.   Additionally, I have completed and fulfilled all the requirements for Multisensory Math teaching level through the Key Learning Center at Carolina Day School. 

 

I really enjoy working with students one-on-one and watching their self-confidence and skills  flourish and  grow. I look forward to bringing my unique skills and experience to work with young learners to provide them  with the tools and confidence to be successful math learners.

What is Multi-sensory Math, and how will it help my child?

Multi-sensory Math is an evidenced based approach that follows the teaching principles of Orton Gillingham. This approach is a style of instruction developed for students with dyslexia and other exceptional learners.  The approach utilizes multiple sensory experiences combined with explicit concept based instruction.  The hands on approach helps kids connect what they learn through their senses to numbers and symbols. It builds a conceptual foundation to support students in applying the skills later in their learning, it builds facts and fluency, and it can be used in any standards based curriculum.
